Dr. Don Rosello is considered the pioneer of advanced laparoscopic surgery in the Visayas and Mindanao.

For over a decade, the application of laparoscopy in the southern Philippines has been limited only to Gallbladder surgery and a few gynecologic procedures. It was only in 2003 when Dr. Rosello, after returning from a much coveted fellowship program overseas, redefined the standards of surgical care in the region by introducing advanced laparoscopic procedures. In fact, Dr. Rosello is credited with numerous firsts in minimally invasive surgery within the Vis-Min area. The very first Heller’s Myotomy, Nissen’s fundoplication, Gastric Banding, Colon surgery, Adrenalectomy, Thoracoabdominal exploration for trauma, Varicocoelectomy, Splenectomy, Mesenteric Lymph Node Biopsy, and Appendectomy under the laparoscope were all performed by him. Dr. Rosello also performed the first Intra-gastric Balloon procedure for Obesity in the Visayas and Mindanao.

Dr. Rosello took up B.S. Medical Technology at the Cebu Doctors’ College for his preparatory medical degree. He then went on to the University of Santo Tomas in Manila where he earned his degree as Doctor of Medicine. Dr. Rosello joined the Cebu Doctors’ Hospital General Surgery Residency Training Program in 1997 where he harnessed his skills in open conventional surgery serving as Chief Resident in 2001. He then proceeded to the Chinese University of Hongkong Prince of Wales Hospital where he did his fellowship in Upper Gastro-Intestinal Surgery and Surgical Endoscopy under world renowned expert Prof. Sydney Chung. It was during his stint in Hongkong where Dr. Rosello developed his skills in advanced laparoscopic surgery as well as in surgical endoscopy; in particular Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio-Pancreatography (ERCP). Today, Dr. Rosello is one of the most recognized authorities in Surgical Endoscopy in the Philippines.

Driven by his passion to excel and constantly keep abreast in surgical advancements around the world, Dr. Rosello continues to update his knowledge and training through clinical attachments in various centers of excellence around the globe as well as regularly attending courses and workshops handled by some of the world’s most respected authorities in minimally invasive surgery. Among the many others, he was under the tutelage of another world renowned expert, Prof. Paul O'brien of The Alfred Center for Obesity Research in Melbourne, Australia, for further training in Obesity and Weight Loss Surgery. Just recently, Dr. Rosello concluded another training stint in Endoscopic Ultrasound in Sydney under world experts A/Prof. Rupert Leong, Dr. Hugh Dixson, and Dr. David Williams.

Dr. Rosello is a fellow or member of numerous local and distinguished international societies including the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), European Association of Endoscopic Surgery (EAES), Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia (ELSA), Obesity Surgery Society of Australia and New Zealand (OSSANZ), and the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity (IFSO). Furthermore, he is the only laparoscopic surgery trainor in Cebu, Eastern Visayas and Mindanao recognized and duly certified by the Philippine Association of Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Surgeons.
