Dr. Henry C. Chua took up a 3-year special curriculum preparatory medical course at the Cebu Doctors' College, Cebu City, Philippines, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in B.S. Biology in 1995. He then proceeded to the Cebu Doctors' College of Medicine where he earned his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1999, graduating in the top 5 oh his batch and as the Most Outstanding Senior Clinical Clerk. Dr. Chua joined Chong Hua Hospital, also in Cebu City, where he spent his Post-Graduate Internship year culminating in April 2000. After passing the Philippine Physicians' Licensure Exam in the same year, Dr. Chua spent the next 5 years as a surgical resident in the General Surgery Residency Training Program of the Cebu Doctors' University Hospital. He served as Chief Resident in his final year in 2005 and became Board Certified shorly thereafter.

Dr. Chua did his Fellowship at the Minimally Invasive Surgical Centre (MISC), National University Hospital, Singapore in September 2006 where he received training in Endocrine Surgery, Advanced Minimally Invasive Surgery, Endoscopy, and Bariatric Surgery for a little over a year. He was under the guidance of Italian expert MISC Director Prof. Davide Lomanto and topnotch Asians - Endocrine surgeon A/Prof. Cheah Wei Keat from Malaysia, and Upper Gastrointestinal surgeon A/Prof. Jimmy So from Hongkong. To gain more exposure, specifically in the field of Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery, Dr. Chua underwent a clinical attachment with world expert surgeon Dr. Michael KW Li and his Lower Gastrointestinal Surgery team at the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital in Hongkong. Just a few days after his return to Cebu, he led a team of doctors perform the first ever Laparoscopic low anterior resection and went on to perform the first endoscopic totally extraperitoneal hernia repair under regional anesthesia and Endoscopic Total Thyroidectomy in the Vis-min area.

Dr. Chua has attended numerous basic and advanced local and international laparoscopic surgery workshops both as participant and faculty. He is also involved in research and has presented his team's work in Europe and in a few Asian countries as well. In fact, he was part of the pioneering group in Singapore which studied and conducted animal trials in Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery (NOTES).

He is currently a consultant in 8 teritary hospitals in Cebu and is a member of the International Society of Surgery-Societe Internationale de Chirurgie (ISS/SIC), Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), International Association of Endocrine Surgeons (IAES), Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia (ELSA), World Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons (WALS), European Association for Transluminal Surgery (EATS), and the Asia-Pacific Hernia Society (APHS). He is a Fellow ofd the Philippine College of Surgeons (PCS), Philippine Society of General Surgeons (PSGS), and the Philippine Association of Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Surgeons (PALES). He is also a Clinical Instructor at the Cebu Doctors' University College of Medicine.
